After breakfast, the journey continues to Aswan. This day is enjoyed on the sun deck on board while life along the Nile slowly slips by. Here the women do both the dishes and the laundry by the river bank while the children play and bathe. The men are out in their small boats fishing. The riverside villages still look as they did hundreds of years ago. Late in the evening the boat arrives in Aswan.
Thursday:
Opportunity for a trip to the Aswan dam and to the granite quarry with The Unfinished Obelisk. In this granite quarry, the Egyptians already took their granite 4 - 5000 years ago to their enormous buildings that we can admire to this day. The afternoon can be used for sailing around the islands in the Nile in the traditional sailing boats felucca (ordered separately and not included in the excursion package). The evening is at your disposal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on board.
Friday:
Relaxing day in Aswan or opportunity to visit the Temple of Abu Simbel which is the last temple Ramses II built in the Nubian desert, about 3200 years ago. It is located 280 km south of Aswan, and is a mighty temple built into the mountain. When the Aswan Dam was built, the temple had to be dismantled and moved from the masses of water in Lake Nasser. In collaboration with Unesco, the temple was rebuilt, and it is exactly today as it was when it was built. On February 22 and October 22, the sun shines into the temple on 4 statues of the king. This is nature's celebration of Ramses II's birthday and coronation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on board.
Saturday:
We sail back to Kom Ombo & Edfu. After lunch there is a visit to the Temple of Horus in Edfu, one of the best preserved temples in Egypt, built during the Greek period.
